Title: Assistant General Manager
Position: Full Time, Permanent
Hours of Work: 40 – 50 hours per week. Scheduling will be
dictated by operational requirements and scheduling needs. Flexibility is key –
working evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.
Job Location: In-person, on-site in Sydney, Nova Scotia
Proposed Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $27/hour, with a typical work schedule of 40 – 50
hours per week depending on business needs and operational requirements.
Potential annual earnings of $56,160 - $70,200 depending on hours worked. Bonuses
not included.
Benefit Package: Competitive bonus program with the opportunity
to earn up to an additional $15,000 annually through quarterly performance
incentives, plus bi-weekly management tip sharing. Employees also enjoy
medical, dental, and vision coverage, complimentary meals during shifts, and a
50% discount on food purchases while off duty.

As the Assistant General Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in supporting day-to-day operations of the restaurant while helping drive exceptional guest experiences, team engagement, and business performance. Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead by example and ensure operational excellence across all areas of the restaurant.

Core Accountabilities:
Operational Leadership
- Assist in overseeing all restaurant operations, ensuring compliance with Boston Pizza standards, policies, and procedures.
- Support the execution of daily service operations, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and a positive guest experience.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, cleanliness, safety, and hospitality throughout the restaurant.
- Act as Manager on Duty as required and provide leadership during all shifts.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management with front- and back-of-house team members.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture that promotes employee engagement and retention.
- Mentor and develop team members through ongoing coaching, feedback, and leadership support.
- Assist with scheduling to ensure appropriate staffing levels while managing labour costs.
- Champion exceptional guest service and ensure every guest receives a memorable dining experience.
- Monitor labour, food, beverage, and inventory costs to maximize restaurant performance.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, inventory management, ordering, and vendor relationships.
- Analyze operational and financial reports to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to food safety, health and safety, liquor licensing, and company operational standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain restaurant excellence.
- Promote accountability and consistency in execution across all areas of the business.
- Perform additional responsibilities and duties as required to support restaurant operations and business objectives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years of restaurant management experience is required, preferably in a high-volume casual dining environment.
- Food Safety Certification and other industry-related certifications are considered an asset.
- Experience managing Front of House operations is considered an asset.
- Customer-focused with a passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional guest experiences. Thorough understanding of health and safety regulations and food safety standards is preferred.
- Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to recruit, coach, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess situations quickly, resolve operational challenges, and make sound business decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of key restaurant performance metrics, including labour cost, food cost, inventory control, sales growth, and profitability.
- Strong relationship-building skills with guests, employees, and community stakeholders.
- Experience preparing schedules, managing labour budgets, and achieving operational targets.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Solid business acumen with the ability to interpret reports, identify trends, and implement operational improvements.
- Able to provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.
