Join the Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere Board!
The Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere Region Association is looking
for volunteer board members. Board members are an important part of steering
the direction and focus of the activities of the biosphere.
It is our mission to engage all peoples in the balanced and
sustainable development of the exceptional cultural, social, environmental and
economic assets within the Bras d’Or Lake watershed.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for 4-5 new board members. We welcome all
kinds of experience. No one has every type of experience all at once, but here
are some qualities that we would consider assets:
Experience with:
- Board
governance
- Tourism
such as a small business or supporting the industry
- Communications
or media experience
- Teaching
and curriculum development at any education level
- Supporting
fundraising and/or grant writing
An approach that:
- Is collaborative,
- Is caring,
- Has
an interest in the environment and community resilience
- Has
an interest in community engagement
We encourage all applicants to highlight their diverse life
experience and how it could contribute to the BLBRA’s work at the board.
Position: Board Member at Large
Time commitment: 20-35 hours per year
What this entails: 6 x 2.5-hour board meetings
per year, as well as attending the Annual General Meeting. Supporting committee
activities and public events is encouraged.
Term length: Three years with the option of a
second term
Start date: June 18th 2026 with first board meeting September 17th, 2026

About Us:
The Bras d’Or Biosphere was established in 2011 through the
dedication of volunteers who cared passionately about the lake and its lands.
We form part of a Canadian network of 19 biospheres and believe strongly in
collaboration and support of the diverse communities that surround the lake.
Through a federal grant in late 2021, we were able to hire full time staff to
support and expand the activities the biosphere undertakes. We would like to
continue expanding and supporting events and research and are looking for board
members who want to contribute to thoughtful promotion of environmental assets
and responsible economic development.
