Description

Cheticamp Association for Rights, Education and Support (CARES) is a not-for-profit organization with over fifty years of experience in supporting individuals living with intellectual, physical and/or mental-health disabilities, in various ways. CARES has four divisions in its portfolio which includes an Adult Day Program, known as the Green Door, and three community homes.

CARES is seeking a new individual to join its team to support the maintenance needs of its operations. The successful individual will work in collaboration with the Executive Director and Supervisors on various projects which will include minor renovations and repairs, lawn mowing, and general upkeep of the properties.


Job Overview

Job Title: Maintenance Support Worker

Location: Cheticamp, NS
Job Type: Contractor to start, with further discussions about becoming an employee
Duration: 3 months to determine suitability, then ongoing as needed
Compensation: $30.00 an hour

Hours: 15-20 hours a week, depending on organizational need


Key Responsibilities

·         Performing routine maintenance and repairs on CARES buildings, equipment, and systems

·         Handling basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical tasks and repairs

·         Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations

·         Providing own tools and equipment, with CARES providing project materials

·         Maintaining maintenance logs on work performed and reporting major issues to management


Qualifications & Skills

·         Proven work experience in general maintenance or a related field

·         Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently

·         Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills

·         Good physical condition and ability to perform manual tasks indoors and outdoors

 

Contract Requirements

·         Must be legally eligible to work in Nova Scotia

·         Flexible availability to support CARES operations

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
