Role Overview:
A Baker plays a significant role in day-to-day functionality
at the Highwheeler Cafe & Bakery. The Baker will work closely with the
Bakery Manager, assisting in menu planning, production, and seasonal offerings.
The Baker works in a fast-paced environment, maintaining the organizational
ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively. The Baker is
a key team player in a fun and dynamic workplace.
Reports to: Café Manager
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and present baked goods and desserts, including but not limited to laminated pastries, tarts, cookies, breads, and more, according to Highwheeler recipes and quality standards.
- Assist in savoury food preparation and production as required.
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene are maintained in the various kitchen areas, including refrigerators and storerooms, and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
- Supervise and train bakery employees when required.
- Adhere to established schedules and maintain the bakery's production schedule by following a daily routine.
- Determine daily baking quantities base on production requirements, as well as implement process improvement to minimize waste and prevent production delays.
- Follow proper reporting procedures for accidents and incidents to ensure follow-up and prevention.
- Maintain the clean and welcoming appearance of all equipment and serving counters.
- Always stay productive and prepare for future needs as time allows.
- Help raise the department's standards and bring new concepts forward to ensure departmental objectives are met or exceeded.
- Maintain a professional appearance, demeanour, and attitude at all times.
- Maintain a favourable working relationship with all employees and guests to foster and promote a positive environment and belonging.
- Assist with general kitchen operations as required.
What We’re Looking For:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- At least 2 years of proven experience as a baker.
- Experience in the production of laminated pastry and familiarity with baking equipment is required.
Skills:
- Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and excellent time management skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy bags of flour and ingredients
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
